Nine nominees for cultural programme Olympic Games in Brazil announced
Stan Vreeken, Sjaron Minailo, Nora Tinholt, Ricardo O’Nascimento, Lieneke Mous, Fernando Belfiore, Efe Erdem, Emma Rekers and Maarten Meddens are the nine nominees that have been preselected for the cultural programme before the Olympic Games of 2016 in Brazil.
In March of this year the Dutch Cultural Funds, DutchCulture and the cultural secretary of the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro were looking for artists for a Dutch cultural programme before the Olympic Games in Brazil.
Dutch Performing Arts posted an open call for innovative 'mid-career' performing artists, who already had a strong convincing portfolio, in the fields of music, dance and theatre. Nine artists, three from each discipline, are preselected and presented to the partners in Brazil. The suggested candidates will be discussed between the programme-team in The Netherlands and the programme-team in Brazil to find the best connection between the artists that will lead to the most fruitful cultural collaboration between the two countries. Finally, from each discipline one artist will be selected to participate in the programme.
During the programme new collaborations between 10 artists from The Netherlands and 10 artists from Rio de Janeiro will be developed. The project is locally embedded by working with several cultural festivals and institutions in Rio de Janeiro, who are connected to the state-secretary of culture of the municipality of Rio de Janeiro. The project consists of creating new works and will include several presentations during the project and a large-scale presentation during the final day of the project.
The organisation from Brazilian side will be essentially done by TEMPO Festival as the main organising body from Rio de Janeiro. TEMPO will work in close collaboration with other cultural festivals and/or cultural organisations in Rio de Janeiro to cover all the cultural disciplines.
