Dutch music at Gaudeamus Muziekweek: not-to-miss artists

#music #cuttingedge #premieres #Gaudeamus #75thanniversary

Despite the many challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, there still are ways to discover (new) Dutch work and reach out to performing arts professionals worldwide. Dutch Performing Arts and music festival Gaudeamus Muziekweek team up to present cutting-edge artists and ensembles from the Netherlands through a series of video portraits. First up: Henk Heuvelmans and Martijn Buser of Gaudeamus share a selection of Netherlands-based artists that are not to be missed at this year's festival.
Gaudeamus Muziekweek 2020 takes place from 9-13 September in Utrecht. This year's edition is like no other. Not only does the organisation celebrate its 75th anniversary. Also, because of the current COVID-19 measures, the professionals' programme that the festival had planned to organise for international presenters with Dutch Performing Arts fell through. Looking for alternative ways to present Netherlands-based artists and composers to international presenters, we've created a series of video portraits that spotlight some of the exciting Dutch work at this year's festival.

Kicking off the series are Henk Heuvelmans (general director) and Martijn Buser (programmer) of Gaudeamus. At the place where Gaudeamus was founded, they talk about Gaudeamus' rich history and share a selection of festival highlights.

In the coming weeks, we'll be sharing interviews with Fedor Teunisse of Slagwerk Den Haag and Zeno van den Broek, Diamanda Dramm, and Asko|Schönberg, who talk about their inspiration and international ambitions.

Follow Dutch Performing Arts on Facebook to stay updated when we release a new video.
