    Upcoming visitors programmes

Dutch Performing Arts will continue its organisation of visitors programmes around and with some of the most important Dutch festivals in 2018, to highlight the huge variety of Dutch performers and companies.
In its collaboration with festivals and organisations, mainly Dutch festivals, Dutch Performing Arts gives attention to several genres, from music to children’s theatre, and from music theatre to dance. The promotion of pop music has been delegated to the Popcoalition. We represent the whole range of performing arts companies, whether they are subsidised by Performing Arts Fund NL or not. Here is an overview of the upcoming visitors programmes:

PopArts Festival is an international event organised by Feikes Huis, together with De Krakeling and Theater Bellevue. Running from 17 to 22 April, the festival brings together a whole diversity of puppet and object theatre from the Netherlands and abroad

Spring Performing Arts Festival Utrecht is an international platform for performance, theatre and dance works. For the international delegates it hosts an extra programme in which you can meet emerging and pioneering performers who live and work in the Netherlands. The festival runs from 17 to 26 May.

Besides a visitors programme, Operadagen Rotterdam – Rotterdam Opera Days – is organising Operatie Muziektheater – Operation Music Theatre – an annual network meeting for opera and music theatre performers, companies, bookers and programmers for theatres and festivals. A programme of elevator pitches and speed dates is your introduction to a mix of young and established Dutch and international artists and companies. Operation Music Theatre takes place on Thursday, 24 May.

During the International Society for the Performing Arts congress in Leeuwarden (11 to 17 June), special attention will be drawn to Dutch artistes in the fields of theatre, dance and music. A boat trip to the Oerol Festival on the island of Terschelling is part of the conference. This event is combined with a special visitors programme. Participation is through the official channels of ISPA, but special discounted conference rates are available for European and Dutch delegates.

inJazz and Dutch Performing Arts are collaborating closely on an international visitors programme to introduce (new) Dutch work, musicians and bands to international platforms. inJazz will be held on 28 and 29 June in Rotterdam. More and more foreign delegates are finding their way to inJazz and appreciate its broad approach. Also, this year Dutch Performing Arts commissioned inJazz to organise a Dutch World Stage at inJazz with four Dutch groups.

Julidans is an international dance festival that runs from 2 to 15 July in Amsterdam, with a wide range of challenging productions and premieres. Within the context of the festival, one weekend will be specially devoted to Dutch productions.

From 20 to 22 July the Wonderfeel classical music festival is being staged in the midst of nature close to Hilversum. With more than 100 performances in three days, Wonderfeel is the perfect place for professionals from the cultural sector to discover musicians and programmes.

During 8 to 11 August, Theaterfestival Boulevard presents a range of theatre, dance and performance. A number of international professionals are invited to come and visit this festival in ‘s-Hertogenbosch.

From 6 to 8 September you are welcome to visit the best of Dutch and Flemish theatre during Theaterfestival Flanders, in the programme called Highlights from the Lowlands. This time we will meet you in Brussels, and besides shows and network meetings the programme includes a visit to Ghent.

From 5 to 7 October we are hosting a large-scale special event about youth theatre and dance. De Krakeling in Amsterdam is celebrating its 40th birthday, so together with Assitej NL we are supporting the showcase and a visitors programme that encompasses 12 full shows, network meetings and transportation.

More programmes will be announced soon.

    About our approach
Dutch Performing Arts usually collaborates with existing Dutch festivals. It is important that a festival is internationally respected or presents several Dutch artists. For each festival Dutch Performing Arts considers whether there is a sufficiently large cluster of Dutch shows or performances on offer, and if not then we discuss how we can strengthen the existing programme with complementary work. We never make selections ourselves, but work with peers or experts, sometimes in a panel, to define the selection. We will never invite a visitor for a single group or show.

It is also important that the Dutch groups which are presented have a high artistic quality, have a clear international policy, and are able to follow up if they are invited. At least 75% of the guests we host must come from the countries prioritised in Dutch international cultural policy. Visitors must be decision-makers, presenters, directors of festivals and venues, or journalists. The basic offer for our guests is accommodation for one or more nights, network lunches and dinners, and in all cases free tickets to the Dutch shows or performances.

If you would like to participate in a programme, please contact Dutch Performing Arts or the above mentioned festivals. For Dutch companies and artists interested in participation, please click here for more information.
